About Noise and Vibration Consulting and Engineering Ltd
What we do for you!
Our clients' greatest demand is a complete solution service. With our tenacity to solve problems we provide turnkey services from the assessment to commissioning the solution.
Every time we receive an enquiry, we are asked whether we see the project through to the end; meaning, can we physically implement the solution as well.
"Yes, we can!"
This eliminates contracting additional companies, easing the management of the project and avoiding miscommunication, as the onus is on us.
As experienced mechanical engineers and acoustical engineers, we have the expertise and experience in all phases of the project, and we prove solution effectiveness at the completion of the project, that the problem is solved!
Case Study
An example of our work is the structure-borne sound in a 20 floor building in Belgium, where a telecommunications tower produced a vibration sound in the penthouse.
Our response was to assess, find the cause, resolve by design and install the mitigation on site with the client present, to demonstrate that the mitigation measure was effective.
They have not had a complaint since.
This we offer all our clients.
About the company director
Our director is a natural problem solver and finds solving problems for customers rewarding and gratifying - as we help customers succeed.
The director, Paul Schmitz MBA CEng, is a chartered mechanical engineer that specialised in vibration and noise. It's on his experience that Noise and Vibration Consulting and Engineering Ltd (NaVCaE) was founded.
Career
Paul’s first job (1996) as a graduate engineer was at a consultancy firm, located on the premises of the University or Pretoria and run by the professors and lecturers of the mechanical engineering faculty.
Here he gained experience in a variety of engineering challenges relating to vibration, noise, structural fatigue testing, fracture mechanics, instrumentation and simulation testing.
Within in a year of working at LGI Advanced Engineering he realised that vibration is the Achilles heel of mechanical engineering. It was then that he decided to specialise in vibration, structural dynamics and noise.
Research
With education from Pretoria University, ISVR at Southampton University and Cranfield University School of Management, he now has over 28 years’ experience in resolving noise and vibration problems in aerospace, automotive, environmental, industrial, recycling, oil and gas, off-highway and consulting.
His research at the ISVR was in structural dynamics and noise radiation to develop a design tool to mitigate noise in commercial vehicles during the design phase for a quieter environment for drivers.

About this website
This website is written by chartered mechanical engineers and chartered acousticians to relay their experience in working in the noise and vibration field as acousticians and as mechanical engineers.
The reason for this approach is that, as stated in the book titled Marketing Professional Services by Philip Kotler, the best person to market services is the person that fully understands the capabilities of the business. This person is the best person to face customers and clients to answer their questions face to face without further consultation with fellow colleagues. Making this approach the most efficient for both parties.
In the case of this website, it is the director of Noise and Vibration Consulting and Engineering Ltd, Paul Schmitz MBA CEng that oversees the copy presented on this website.
How to use this website
This website is laid out in a hierarchy tree format, so click on the navigation bar word that best describes your search criteria, and click on the keyword trail.
As an example, for vibration isolation control projects, click on vibration, then click on the heading vibration control in the vibration page, which will then take you to a descriptive page on vibration control and further to projects or case studies which we've completed.
